MacMICHAEL, FRANK ROBERT "BOB" - Frank Robert “Bob” MacMichael, 82, died peacefully on January 25, 2014, in Northwood Halifax. Bob was born in Moncton, NB, a son of Frank and Ruth (McCowan) MacMichael. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Valerie (Stewart), two sons, Richard (Lori) and Pete (Shannon), and grandchildren, Joshua, Karsten, Sofia, Meghan and Gavin, as well as brother, Ian, St. Stephen, NB. He was predeceased by daughter, Gillian, in 2000. Bob excelled in athletics, both at Moncton High School and Mt. Allison University. As younger man, he was a member of the Moncton Cubs and Dieppe Cardinals baseball teams. He later caught the attention of the amateur scouting staff of the Boston Bruins and Detroit Red Wings hockey teams, and attended their camps in Barrie and Copper Cliff, ON, for a time. At University, he captained both the hockey and basketball teams, and was a member of the Varsity Maritime Championship rugby team. He also coached the Junior Varsity hockey team while at Mount Allison, and in later years coached in the Rockingham Eagles Minor Hockey system for six years. As a graduate of Nova Scotia Tech, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he and Val spent a short time in Chicago. While working there they took in many Black Hawks and Cubs games before moving to Halifax to start a career. Together with partner, Tom MacPherson, they established a very successful business, M&M Engineering. Bob spent his early summers honing his golf game at Ashburn Golf Club. Later on, he and Val purchased a cottage at Mason’s Point, St. Margaret’s Bay, where they spent much time entertaining family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Wednesday, January 29, from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at J. A. Snow Funeral Home. 339 Lacewood Drive, Halifax, (455-0531). Funeral service to be held on Thursday, January 30, at 11:00 am at Rockingham United Church, Flamingo Drive, followed by a reception.
