It is with heartfelt sadness and sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of our son Ryan Daniel McDonnell on Jan 28, 2014 in Banff Alberta. He was born February 1982 and raised in Sydney.
In his earlier years Ryan attended school at Sydney River Elementary, Malcolm Munroe Jr. high and on to high school at Sydney Academy.
Ryan’s interest included Little League Baseball in which his baseball team won the Triple Crown. Ryan excelled in Tae Kwon Do and enjoyed many sports but in particular playing basketball.
Later on Ryan’s (D.J. Glitch) interests included D.J. House music, his passion to produce, create and mix sounds knew no boundaries. He continued on with his creativity and was a graduate from the class of 2011, Marconi Campus (Sydney) in Culinary Arts and was registered as an apprentice chef, a career he pursued with great gusto. Ryan’s talent and passion for creating great food had him employed in several well known restaurants in Sydney, Calgary and Banff. Ryan made many friends and held his friends in high regard. As a friend he was always concerned about others, whether helping a friend move, celebrating a birthday or being an excellent listener. Ryan’s recent plans included traveling to the Philippines with the Bill Gates Foundation to assist in the recovery process of the many victims who had lost so much. Ryan’s passion and creativity was continually flourishing, and was loved for his big heart, hearty laugh and his caring loving nature. He will forever be missed by his family and many friends.
Ryan was the only son of Denise Bishop-McDonnell (Paul Mackinnon), Sydney River and Daniel McDonnell (Chantal Coulombe), Sydney. He also leaves behind grandparents, Frances 'Saucey' and John 'Grampy' Leblanc of Sydney; aunts, Jodi McDonnell-Scott (Dave) of Coxheath, Linda Wingate (Gary) of St. Catherinnes, Marie Bishop-Semenoff (Ron); uncles, Joey Bishop (Eileen), Liam Bishop (Perley-Ann Friedman); cousins, Michael (Melinda)Bishop, P.E.I., Steven (Tracey) Bishop, P.E.I., Monica (Alan) Semenoff Garner Calgary, Joseph Semenoff Calgary, Wayne (Don) Parrish, Vancouver, Nathan (Allison) Parrish, Laura Catherine Bishop, P.E.I., Ashyln Bishop, P.E.I., Andrew Wingate of St. Catherines, Scott Wingate (Victoria) of St. Catherines
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ryan’s memory to Nova Scotia Mental Health Association Sydney.
Visitation for Ryan will be held on Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, with a celebration of life to follow at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Burial will take place at a later date in Resurrection Cemetery.
