John R. Weir, 66 years of age, of Tidnish Bridge, passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre. Born in Middleton, he was a son of the late Roddy & Julia (Hillier) Weir.
John worked for Wood Motor Ford in Halifax for 17 years and was a well known salesman in the Metro area. A quiet man, he liked to sit back, relax and take it all in. He was never one to sit still, he could be seen driving around Tidnish and was fondly nicknamed the "Mayor of Tidnish" he will be sadly missed by those who knew him.
John will be sadly missed by his wife of 42 years , Trudy; daughters, Julie Nowe of New Glasgow, N.S.Kathy Weir of Windsor, N.S.; sons, Roddy (Sandy) of Wilmot, N.S., Lee (Amanda) of Tidnish Bridge, N.S., Douglas of Tidnish Bridge, N.S.; grandchildren, Courtney, Jenna, Patrick, Jessica, Hayley, Maddison; sisters, Lillian Tracz ( Naster) of Lower Sackville, N.S., Hazel Dodge of Coldlake, A.B., Jessie Cloutier of Annapolis Valley, N.S., Cheryl Weir of Halifax, N.S.; brother, Melvin of Newfoundland; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by an infant son, Ronald, two nieces, Jackie & Christine.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Furlong-Jones Funeral Home, 70 Church St., Amherst, N.S. No visitation or funeral service at this time by request. A memorial boat run will be held in the summer on the Tidnish river as John enjoyed spending time cruising the river on his boat.
