Gordon Boldon

Gordon Boldon

BOLDON, WALTER WILLIAM GORDON "GORDIE" - Well known Fredericton businessman Gordie Boldon passed away on February 20, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Fredericton on November 16, 1935, Gordie was the son of the late George and Georgina (Styran) Boldon. Gordie is loved and survived by his wife, Jacqueline (Marquis-Stephenson) Boldon; the mother of his children and dear friend, Millicent (DeWolfe) Boldon; his daughter Kelly Boldon (Gary Flieger); his son Robert Boldon (Colleen) and their two sons, Guerin and Conlan, who were the apples of Gramps’ eye; his step sons Jonathan and Jason Stephenson; his step mom, Georgie Boldon; his sisters, Jeannie McLachlan (Dennis), Mary Ellen Mayo, Katherine Boldon, Emily Ruth Mullins (Bob); his brothers, George Boldon (Joan) and Tom Boldon (Freda); and his step sister Gail Barton and step brother Mac Barton. He is survived by two special cousins Page Boyce and Huntly Armbruster, several brothers and sisters-in-law as well as nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Jim Boldon (Lois); and his sisters, Hannah Callaghan (Bernie), Margaret Ann Mersereau (Darrell), and Nancy Blizzard (Royden). Gordie is perhaps best remembered in the Fredericton community as the owner of Boldon’s Food Stores (1968 -2007), with Boldon’s Cafe on Regent St. serving “The best all day breakfast in town!” during the 1980’s and 90’s. In later years he owned and operated Gordie’s Pub in the old Fredericton Mall. He was a talented athlete and a strong supporter of local sports, sponsoring many teams, including the Midget AAA Hockey team for many years. Gordie was a caring and compassionate man who was as comfortable in a pair of coveralls as he was in a suit. It was his nature to help others, without pretentiousness or conditions. He did not judge. He treated all as equals. He listened. To have met Gordie was to have met a friend. He was a mentor to his children, guiding them in business and in life. An avid golfer and angler, Gordie spent many hours at his camp at Clark’s Point. His was a life well lived. He travelled, enjoyed a cold beverage, a good joke, a great meal, a nice win by his Pittsburgh Penguins, and most importantly spending time with friends and family. Both Gordie and his family want to thank the gifted and caring people who worked so hard to help him throughout his illness: Dr. Chris Lambropoulos and his office staff; Dr. James Mowatt and the awesome nurses in the surgical unit at the Saint John Regional Hospital; Dr. Raza, Dr. Broad, and the “angels on earth” nurses in the oncology department of the DECH; all of the extra-mural nurses, whose dedication and compassion allowed Gordie to remain at home until the last few days; and Dr. Debra Gowan and the kind and caring nurses in palliative care (DECH). We’d also like to thank all other employees at the DECH who took the time to say hello, smile or share a funny story with us on our many visits.
Visitation will take place at McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton, February 24th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm and February 25th from 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. A private family service will be held at a later date. Gordie would be honored for any donations made in his name to Pancreatic Cancer Research, Fredericton SPCA, DECH Palliative care, or the DECH Oncology Unit. Personal condolences may be offered through www.mcadamsfh.com.
