Lori Evelyn Loraine Melhoff passed away peacefully on February 12, 2014 after a brief illness at the age of 90. Lori was born in Shaunavon, SK on December 21, 1923 to Icelandic/Canadian parents, Thorn & Bertha Thorarinson. Lori attended grade school in Climax and Shaunavan, followed by nursing college at Saskatoon General Hospital where she attained her R.N. designation. She enjoyed endearing friendships with her nursing classmates for almost 70 years. She then began her career at Swift Current Union Hospital. She soon met a young veteran sailor, Doug Melhoff, and they were married on October 1, 1949. Lori and Doug enjoyed their entire 64 year marriage in Swift Current, raising their four children Sharon, Garth, Kim and Brian. Over the years, Lori was an active member of the Eastern Star, Shrine Ladies, United Church Women's League, Fort Nightly Club and Swift Current Curling Club. Lori was a classy and stylish lady who was a voracious reader and enjoyed watching news, sports and travelogue TV shows in her spare time. In later years, she loved everything Oprah and was a true Monarchist in her love for Queen Elizabeth II and anything Royal. She leaves a rich legacy of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends, who will remember her for her warmth, kindness and unconditional love. Lori is survived by her husband, Douglas; daughter, Sharon (Wayne) Provick; sons, Garth (Claire) Melhoff and Brain (Pamela) Melhoff; grandsons, Bradley (Sandra) Provick, Trevor (Marie Lucie) Provick, Janson (Elizabeth) Melhoff, Clancy Melhoff and Dylan Sader; granddaughters, Machaela (Jack) Melhoff, Lindsay (Dustin) Gates and Sydney Melhoff; great grandchildren, Janden Provick, Breckin Provick, Danielle Provick, Ahnia Provick, Anders Provick, Paige Melhoff, Austin Gates and Gabriel Melhoff. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Kimberly; brother, Gisli Thorarinson, sister-in-law, Mary Thorarinson; sister, Margaret Silverson; brother-in-law, Cliff Silverson; and niece, Linda Rowell. Good Night Sweetie. A Memorial Service was held on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from First United Church, with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating. The pianist was Sharon Veer, and honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in her life. The interment took place in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
