Leonce Cormier

CORMIER, LÉONCE - Surrounded by his family, the death of Léonce Alphonse Cormier, occurred peacefully and with dignity at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Sunday, February 23, 2014. He was born on June 27, 1932 in Cormier’s Cove (Memramcook), the oldest son of the late Alyre and Ida (Gaudet) Cormier. In his younger years he played competitive hockey and baseball in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s having played junior hockey in Moncton and baseball for the Memramcook Rovers. He coached minor hockey for many years in Lancaster and was an active volunteer for the Saint John Christmas Invitational Hockey Tournament. Léonce worked for Tremco for over 40 years, retiring as Senior Regional Manager for Atlantic Canada. He was an active member of St. François de Sales Parish and was instrumental in helping the parish build its church. He was a member of the Riverside Golf and Country Club and in his retirement he had become an avid golfer, having achieved a hole in one on two separate occasions. Léonce is survived by one son, Marc R. Cormier (June Creamer), Quispamsis; two daughters, Dr. Nicole Cormier (Denis Gagnon), Cocagne; Lise Cormier (Christopher Borden), Dieppe; brothers, Jean-Guy Cormier (Yvonne), Memramcook; Leonel Cormier (Armelle), Memramcook; Alphonse Cormier (Cecile), Dieppe and Euclide Cormier (Paulette), Memramcook; sisters, Georgeline Leblanc (Rudy), Memramcook; Marie Gaudet, Dieppe; Claudette Landry (Emery) Dieppe and Rosaline LeBlanc (Ira), Conn. USA; Léonce is also survived by his grandchildren, Ryan Cormier, Geneviève and Isabelle Borden, whom he cherished dearly; and several nieces and nephews. Léonce was predeceased by his beloved wife, Aline, of 52 years, his brother Robert Cormier and his brother- in-law Aurèle Gaudet.
Resting at Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424), with visiting on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated from Paroisse St. François de Sales, Boars Head Road, Saint John, on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Bobby’s Hospice, Saint John Regional Hospital, Palliative Care, Canadian Cancer Society, or St. François de Sales Building Fund.
