It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Terrance (Terry) Stephen Tollefson. Terry passed away on February 24th, at the age of 62, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Terry was born in Moose Jaw on March 19, 1951 to Roy and Fern Tollefson. Terry grew up on the family farm west of Mossbank, Saskatchewan. He took most of his schooling in Vantage and Mazenod then completed grade 12 at Mossbank School. Upon graduation Terry moved to Saskatoon to attend the University of Saskatchewan obtaining an Honours Degree in Biology and Masters Degree in Soil Science. Terry married the love of his life, Rosemarie Remeshylo on April 29, 1978. Terry and Rosemarie had four daughters, Errin, Heather, Mary and Megan and they were his pride and joy. He did everything in his power to support, nurture and guide his daughters; he was the best father anyone could have. Terry was blessed with one granddaughter Nevaeh, with whom he spent countless hours. He cherished every moment he had with her. Terry joined the College of Agriculture faculty in 1983 and began teaching Soil Science classes. He had a passion for teaching and wanted nothing more than to see his students succeed. He was most recently awarded the NACTA teaching award, ASA Prof of the year for 2013/14, and will be the recipient of the 2014 Provost College Teaching Award. He set a great example for his colleagues and made many wonderful friends within the college. He was a prof that truly made a difference. When Terry wasn’t teaching he would pack up his family to spend May – September on the family farm in Mossbank. Terry was proud to be part of the 104 year legacy of Tollefson Farms – farming along side his father Roy and brother Tim, and in later years his nephews. Terry loved all aspects of farming – except for maybe hauling barley. Terry’s other interests after family, soil science and farming included classic cars – namely late 20s hotrods. He had a special affinity for the Ford T-bucket and the Ford Flathead V8 engine. During the last four months Terry was amazed with the number of people who came to visit him. He really enjoyed the time with friends and family. He was a well-respected man, with a kind heart and many were fortunate to know him. Terry is dearly loved and missed by his wife of nearly 36 years Rosemarie, daughters Errin, Heather, Mary and Megan and granddaughter Nevaeh; father Roy; brothers Laurie (Chris), Tim (Lorna), and sister Kate (Garnet); brother-in-law Dennis (Marilyn) Remeshylo and sister-in-law Lynn Remeshylo; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his mother Fern; and brothers-in-law Nick Remeshylo and Chuck Thomson. Terry’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the Home Care team that provided such kindness and caring to Terry and his family.
