CORMIER, DOUGLAS - On February 7, at the Bruyère Hospital, Douglas Cormier, aged 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Doug will be forever loved and dearly missed by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (nee Cochrane), his father Arthur (Audrey), daughter, Nicole, granddaughters Logan and Kayla, sisters Linda (Bob) and Mimi, brothers Daryl (Michelle) and Greg (Shinobu). Doug was predeceased by his mother, Bertha, his daughter, Michelle, his sister Carolyn and nephew Benjamin. Doug will be dearly missed by many beloved nieces and nephews. Doug was born on September 1, 1944 in St. John’s, Newfoundland to Arthur and Bertha Cormier and after WWII moved to Saint John, New Brunswick. Doug’s love of the sea and the east coast remained with him throughout his life. A keen interest in the communications field began early with a ham radio and was to set his future career course. Doug graduated Saint John Vocational School and went to work for Bell. His love of technology and his inquisitive mind gave him that rare gift that he could boast that he always loved his job. He had an easygoing nature making him an approachable and incredibly helpful worker among his peers. Doug began work for New Brunswick Telephone in 1974 and began building his house on the Saint John River. And in 1977, Doug married the love of his life Mary. In 1987 he and Mary moved to Ottawa to work for Telecom Canada/SRCI and then the government of Canada where his expertise and insight were highly valued. Doug loved canoeing with his buddies and he and Mary enjoyed travel and experiencing other cultures. His kind and giving nature and his keen sense of humour made him dearly loved by many. We will miss him so much.
