CUMMINGS, JEAN
Jean Alice Cummings of Success passed away peacefully, at the age of 79, with her loving family by her side on March 4, 2014 after fighting a courageous battle with Lung Disease for two years. Jean was born in Maxim, SK on June 27, 1934 to parents Ole and May Hendrickson. Her younger years were spent on the family farm growing up with sister, Bessie (1930) and brother, Milton (1938), enjoying horses and the Saskatchewan prairie way of life. Jean married Alvin Cummings on Sept. 26, 1953 and the Cummings family had its start. Alvin and Jean worked many years together in the oil patch. Jean did bookkeeping for Hi-West Well Service, Wide West Well Service, Alterry Well Service and finally Flame Well Service over all these years. Bookkeeping was her specialty and even to her final days things were kept in perfect order. Jim was born in 1955 and Kelly in 1962. Jean’s life revolved around her close family and she always had words of encouragement, a gentle soul and lent a helping hand to anyone of us. Jean will be forever missed by the family which includes grandsons Brian (1972), Brandon (1986), and Kyle (1990) and families now. Gramma and Brian have always had a special bond over the years and were never too far away from each other. Gramma always loved hearing stories of Brandon and Kyle’s hockey over the years as well as their first few years being involved in the oil patch. Jean leaves behind a family who so much loved and respected her for the way she lived her life and the hard battle she fought for the last two years. Jean loved to garden and watch over her flowers and especially cutting grass around her place. Jean and Al’s place in Jaffray, BC was essentially always like a park for the family to come and relax for over 20 years as it was our second home for quite a while. Jean was predeceased by her husband, Alvin in 2005; mother, May Hendrickson in 1987; father, Ole in 1960; and grandson, Jared in 1988. Jean is survived by son Jim (Marilyn) of Success and grandson Brian (Lisa), great-grand kids Mandy, Mackenzie and Jessie; and great great-grandkids Zack and Ashtyn; son, Kelly (Julie), grandsons Brandon (Tracey) and great granddaughter Ayva; and grandson Kyle. “In our hearts we already miss you forever, we miss your unconditional love, your words of encouragement, your words of love to us, your helping hand, and your gentle soul. We love you, we miss you and you are in our hearts forever." A private family service was held on March 8, 2014 at Hillcrest Cemetery with Reverend Sharon Ferguson-Hood officiating, where Mom, Gramma, Great-Gramma, and Great Great-Gramma was laid to rest beside her husband Alvin. Together again Mom and Dad. Any donations can be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association.
