Helen Jean Lunn, 82 (1931 - 2014) of Brooklyn, Hants County, passed away on the evening of Monday, March 10, at the Hants Community Hospital, Windsor, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. So dearly loved, she will be tremendously missed by son, Keith; daughter, Catherine; her treasured grandsons, Devon and Jordan; sisters, Margaret and Greta; and all her nieces and nephews who faithfully visited her in hospital during her illness. Born on March 13, 1931 in Centre Burlington, Hants County, Nova Scotia, she was a daughter of the late Clarence and Lillian (Murphy) Salter. Born in Burlington, Hants County to a family of six siblings, she obtained her schooling there with grade twelve, and then went on to business school, graduating with a diploma from the K. Anslow School of Business. Following graduation she started her career with her first employment with Avon Valley, where she did the accounting and bookkeeping for the company until her marriage in 1953. For the next decade she worked tirelessly at home, dedicated to her family on a busy farm homestead. In the 60s she returned to the workforce and took employment as a bookkeeper at Texaco (her brother’s business) and later at Etter’s Lumber Company. Following that she took employment at the Windsor Home Hardware where, after approximately 30 years of doing the company’s accounting and bookkeeping, she retired at the amazing age of 76. Helen loved her bookkeeping and thought of the Home Hardware staff as her extended family. She took pride in her work and was commended successively over her career by auditors from the Canada Revenue Agency for her extraordinary and meticulous bookkeeping. She loved to cook for her family and we have the fondest memories of her Sunday and holiday dinners where she always put on a ‘spread’ for her family. She will always be remembered for her awesome apple pie and strawberry jam. She was a very generous and compassionate lady who dearly loved, and was dedicated to her family; who was first and foremost, always. Surviving are son, Keith Lunn, Maryland, USA; daughter, Catherine Lunn, Dartmouth; grandsons, Jordan MacCarthy and Devon MacCarthy; sisters, Margaret Faulkner, Cheverie; Greta King, Nictaux; nieces and nephews, Joan Salter, Diane Burns, Carol Salter, Rose Salter, Brenda MacKenzie, Mitchell Salter, Wanda MacKenzie, Donna Lynch, Tanya Sanford, Frances Brison, Phillip Brison, Mitchell Brison, Scott Brison, Danny King and Cynthia Moore.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Avard and Logan Salter; sister, Verna Brison. Visitation was held 2-4 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, (902-798-2232), 194 King Street, Windsor. A celebration of life followed at 7 p.m. in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. On-line condolences may be sent by clicking on “Contribute” at www.lindsaysfuneralhome.com
