It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Barbara Ann Hart at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital An Cala Palliative Care Unit on March 13, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was the daughter of the late Phyllis Yates and was raised in the maternal family home of the late Mr. & Mrs. David Yates, Tower Road.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kim (Alonzo); sons, John (Stacy), Bernie, Kevin (Cheryl), Gareth and Trevor (Lauren). She is survived by 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara is also survived by sisters, Lily (Richard) Connecticut and Joyce (Frank), Ontario, both of whom were pillars of strength and support for her during her illness.
She was predeceased by her husband, Courtney on March 28, 2013. Four brothers, Dennis, Kevin, David and Edward and one sister, Gail also predeceased her.
During her illness Barbara was lovingly cared for by her son, Kevin and special grandsons, Bret and Craig.
Barbara lived a simple life completely devoted to her late husband and her family. She always started early each fall baking and cooking for Christmas and will always be remembered for her elaborate holiday feasts. She will be deeply missed by all of those who loved her.
A special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit and Cape Breton Cancer Centre.
Visitation for Barbara will be held on Mon. March 17, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the SW Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. A celebration of life will be held the following day, Tues. March 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Sheldon Chant officiating. Interment to take place at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Glace Bay.
