Thomas Fontaine

FONTAINE, THOMAS JOHN - (1949-2014) - passed away suddenly at him home in Cornwall, Ont. on March 17th, at the age of 64. Born in Sydney, NS, he was the son of Francis and Mildred (Standing) Fontaine. After graduating from Riverview High in Sydney, NS, he went on to pursue his career as an Air Traffic Controller in Gander, Nfld, then Ottawa, Ont. He worked for two years in Moncton then spent two years (1973-1975) in Happy Valley - Goose Bay, Nfld. and Labrador. He returned to Moncton and worked for many years in Moncton then at the Air Traffic Control Center in Riverview, NB. In the latter years of his career, he worked as instructor in Cornwall, Ont. until his retirement. Tom was an avid sports fan, especially hockey and golf and joined his many friends in Myrtle Beach to play golf. He also enjoyed spending time with friends playing bridge and was a real people person and the life of the party with his keen sense of humour and wit. Tom is survived by his wife, Lise Beaulieu, of Cornwall, Ont, one daughter, Allison Fontaine (George Irving), one son Tom (Shannon) Fontaine, stepson Joel Martineau and stepdaughter, Jenna Martineau. He is also survived by one brother, Paul (Ann) of Lewisporte, Nfld., two sisters Debbie (Ray) Dunphy of Kelowna, BC and Michelle (Andrew) Soon of Stony Plain, Alta., many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Elaine Fontaine. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Frank (2013).
Cremation has taken place. A small, private service has taken place on Mar. 20th. Funeral service and burial will take place in Cornwall, Ont. in July, the date will be announced later. Arrangements entrusted to Lahaie and Sullivan Funeral Home West Branch in Cornwall, Ont. Online condolences can be made on their website.
