Eleanore Mildred Fick, a long time resident of Dawson Creek passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at the age of 92.
Eleanore was born in North Dakota to Carl & Amelia Dahlen, the 8th of 10 children. Eleanore married Herb Fick in 1940 and they raised three children, Colleen, Verdie and Elton. They bought East End Grocery in 1956 and in 1971 Herb passed away suddenly from a heart attack. Eleanore sold the store in 1975 and decided to “take life easier”, but anyone who knew her knows she never slowed down.
She was an avid sewer, always busy with sewing projects and quilting. Spring time Eleanore was busy with bedding plants in the kitchen and waiting for the garden season to begin. Summertime also brought garage sales where she couldn’t resist buying something from each sale she went to.
Eleanore was a life time member of the Sons of Norway. Her Norwegian heritage shone at Christmas with lots of Norwegian baking & deliveries of lefse to friends. Eleanore’s door was always open for a cup of coffee or a fresh baked cookie.
In 2007, Eleanore suffered a massive stroke. She spent her last years in care at
Rotary Manor, loved and cared for by an amazing staff. She loved music and even though her speech was impaired Eleanore could always sing along to the old music favorites. After moving to Rotary Manor Eleanore still enjoyed a good scrabble game, a cup of coffee and in the summer her flower planter outside her room.
Eleanore is survived and lovingly remembered by her sisters Helen and Carolyn, her daughter Colleen (Hank) Oke, son Verdie (Jan) Blake and son Elton (Linda) Fick. Grandchildren Deena Johnson, Laurie Stewart, Adam Fick, Brenna Simmons,
Aiden & Reghan Blake and great grandchildren Erin and Melissa Johnson, Andrew and Sophie Stewart, Eliaz, Nao and Quinn Simmons.
A celebration of life was held March 15, 2014 at Bergeron’s Funeral Home and an inurnment will be held at a later date.
