Atkinson, Hilda Beryl, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, April 8th, at her Amherst residence. Born in Head of Amherst, NS, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Eva (Chapman) Doyle. Hilda was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Hilda is survived by her daughter Donna M. Atkinson (Jack Peckitt) of Thornbury, ON, grandchildren; Tanya (Jeff Millard) Peckitt, Michelle (Cory) Adams, great grandchildren; Trinity Millard and Nathan Adams as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
In addition to her parents Hilda was predeceased by her husband Ernest, brothers Charles and Chester, and sisters; Gladys, Anna, Myrtle and Dolly.
Hilda worked for 18 years at the Bank of Nova Scotia; she was a long time member of Trinity- St. Stephens United Church and UCW as well as the Pythian Sisters.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2014 from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at Campbell’s Funeral Home, 98 Church St., Amherst (667-9906) from where the funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carolyn MacLeod officiating. Reception to follow. Interment will take place at a later date in the Head of Amherst Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hilda’s memory to the Trinity –St. Stephen’s United Church or the Head of Amherst Cemetery.
