CHRISTIE, Jessie Isabel, 88, Bay Side Home, Barrington, formerly of Baccaro, Shelburne County passed away peacefully with family members by her side at the Bay Side Home on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Born at Stoney Island on May 20, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Avis (Ross) and Hubert Gaffey of Boston, Ma., U.S.A. and granddaughter of the late Jessie Ross with whom she resided in Stoney Island for a number of years. She was a member of the Port LaTour Baptist Church and member of the Red Cross. She was an avid knitter. Jessie had a positive outlook on life, even in hard times. She read her Bible daily; walked with her best friend Gladys for years; her house was a hangout for all kids. She enjoyed making homemade biscuits and white bread. She worked as an office worker for National Sea in Halifax and was a telephone operator in Baccaro. She is survived by children, Carolyn (Clairmont) Nickerson; Ivan (Leora) Christie; Shirley (Weldon) Smith; Pauline (Brian) Reynolds; grandchildren, Curtis, Lisa, Trevor, Michelle, Dolores, Denise, Juanita, Terri, Joey, Richard, Jamie; 22 great grandchildren; 6 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two husbands, Obediah Christie and Alpheus Christie. The funeral was held Saturday, April 5, at the H.M. Huskilson’s Memorial Chapel, Barrington, Pastor Jeff Peters and Rev. Robie Atkinson officiating. Burial was in the Woodside Cemetery, Port LaTour. Memorial donations may be made to the Bay Side Home Van Fund.
