In the later years they lived on the farm part time until they retired to Swift Current in 1997. She was an active member of Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church. In the earlier years, Joyce enjoyed playing softball. She attended all of her daughters' track and field events, 4-H activities, sports days and many of her grandchildren's sporting events. She loved to play cards and games but her passion was curling. She was part of the team who won the Provincial Senior Curling playdowns in 1991 and represented the province at the National Championships in Whitehorse, Yukon. She was a prolific knitter and crocheter, outfitting her children and grandchildren with many sweaters and making sure everyone had an afghan or 2.
