Douglas Joseph Carrigan

­At the age of 90, Doug passed away peacefully on April 10, 2014 at home in Belliveau Cove.
Doug grew up in New Glasgow, the son of the late George and Agnes (Ross) Carrigan. A graduate of St. Francis Xavier University and Dalhousie University, he worked as a Professional Electrical Engineer for Ontario Hydro for 30 years. He was married to Jackie Trahan (1924-2001) for over 50 years. They resided in Burlington Ontario, raised a family of six children, pursued common interests and enjoyed a fulfilling life together. Doug has happily resided in Belliveau Cove for 12 years where he has been a member of St. Bernard Roman Catholic Parish. He was grateful to have been welcomed into the community which he actively supported by attending many social and fundraising events. His genuine kindness, generosity and positive spirit was cherished by many.
Surviving are his adoring daughters: Eileen Carrigan, Hamilton, ON; Elizabeth 'Biz' MacDonald (Barry MacDonald), Ottawa; Joan Carrigan (Richard Milburn), Salt Spring Island, BC; sons: Eugene Carrigan, Burlington ON; Daniel Carrigan, Georgetown ON; Pete Carrigan, Whitehorse, YK; sister Patricia (George Master), Portland Maine and brother Len Carrigan, Auckland New Zealand; grandchildren: Erin MacDonald, Samantha MacDonald and Natalie Hudson-Carrigan; brother-in-law Willie Trahan.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Jackie Trahan in 2001 and then by his dear companion, Sally Doucet in 2010.
His family wish to acknowledge the friendship, love and care provided by Betty Cosman, Vi Doucet, Elizabeth Gaudet and Dr. Don Westby and wife Paula and his buddy John Belliveau. Thanks and gratitude also to the VON, Home Support Aides and Palliative Care Nurses.
No funeral home visitation by request. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Donations in memory of Doug can be made to The Lodge That Gives in Halifax. Arrangements have been entrusted to Jayne’s Funeral Home, Digby. 245-2525.
