BENTON, RUTH - It is with deep sadness that the family of Ruth Laurie Benton announce her passing on April 19th, 2014. She died at the Oromocto Public Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1926, she was the second daughter of the late Arthur and Annie James. Ruth grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laud from the University of Saskatchewan where she met her future husband, Bruce. She went on to graduate with a Library degree from the University of Toronto Library School and worked in libraries in Kingston, Saint John, Ottawa, Fredericton and Oromocto. Ruth and Bruce moved to NB in 1966 settling in Oromocto in 1968 where they have spent 46 rich years in the community. Ruth enjoyed her job as a Librarian especially at Christmas when she would design and paint festive windows. Her interests were family and friends, reading, gardening, old houses and the community. She was a kind, generous energetic woman who devoted time to the Oromocto United Church and supported numerous local and international charities. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, five children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation by request. A memorial service will be held at the Oromocto United Church on Wednesday, April 23rd, 2014 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Bob Jones officiating.
