It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Gerard Young of Khalsa Drive, Glace Bay on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CBRH, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, Albert was the son of the late Floyd and Annie (Reynolds) Young.
He was a coal miner for 38 years; retiring from No. 26 Colliery as a supervisor. Albert loved skating and in his younger years was a member of the Colliery League bowling team. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother.
Albert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eunice (Wilkinson) Young; two sons, Kevin, Moncton, Richard (Lisa), Calgary; one sister, Carmel Popwell (Donald), Glace Bay; one brother, Herb Young (Illona), Glace Bay; six grandchildren, Nicole, Kevin, Jameson, Aurora, Alexander, Jennifer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Albert was predeceased by three brothers, Fabian, John, Richard Young and his daughter-in-law, Dorothy Young.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, Glace Bay. The funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Anne’s Church on Saturday at 10 a.m. followed by a reception in the church foyer. Fr. Leo Boone officiating. Interment will be held at St. John’s Cemetery.
As an expression of sympathy for Albert, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, CBRH, Sydney.
