MONTGOMERY, JACK ARCHIBALD - With his family at his side, Jack Montgomery, husband of Margaret (Woolley) Montgomery died at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Monday, April 21, 2014 after a year of care at the Turnbull Home. He was born on April 22, 1928 in Saint John to the late John and Gladys (Osmon) Montgomery Neil. A life-long member of the Anglican Church, Jack began his service as an altar boy at Mission Church, eventually taking on the role of president of the Anglican Young People’s Association, and culminating in roles at St. James the Less Church as Sunday School Superintendent, lay reader, synod delegate, and warden. Jack’s community work included Gilwell Scouting Leadership Training, Renforth Community councilor, and volunteer work at the Renforth Rowing Regatta. Jack worked for many years as a marine insurance underwriter, but it was his time with his family he most enjoyed. Jack is survived by his wife of more than 51 years, Margaret, and also survived by his children: Stephen of Vancouver, BC; Maureen Montgomery and her husband Stephen Betts of Rockland, ME; and Andrew and Katharine (Caesar) and their son Liam of Atlanta, GA; beloved sister, Mary Weeks and brother Donald, both of Saint John; sisters-in-law Iris Barton and Jackie Montgomery; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers Robert and George.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan's Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John (634-7424). Following an 11 a.m. visiting and reception, Jack’s Funeral Service will be held at St. James the Less Church, 1760 Rothesay Road, Rothesay on Monday, July 14, 2014. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, remembrances to Saint John Regional Hospital Palliative Care Unit, or St. James the Less Church, would be appreciated by his family.
