James Daniel Kennedy
James Daniel Kennedy (1937-2014) loving husband of Morag passed away April 24, 2014. His proudest accomplishments were his sons Dan (Michelle) & Stephen (Kim) and as proud grandfather of Meghan and Akira.
Jim served his country proudly as a member of the RCAF and was a veteran UN peacekeeper in the Golan Heights. His service took him from his family to posts in northern Canada and with his family to posts across Canada and USA. One of his finest moments was meeting & sharing a picture with Prime Minister Harper. Jim leaves a legacy of serving, loyalty and citizenship. Following his RCAF career, he began another with Goodyear Canada. Upon retirement, Jim and Morag came home to the Maritimes and settled in Truro where they shared their beautiful home with many relatives and friends. Jim was a lifelong learner, loved reading, discussing the daily newspapers, swimming, skating, & in his earlier years was a runner. Family, work and puttering around in his workshop were important to Jim, but his mastery of Christmas decorating will never be forgotten by anyone living in his neighbourhood. Jim and Morag made Christmas decorating inside and outside their homes an art. Each year Jim added more & more lights, adornments and built beautiful accessories. You could find him happily climbing up on the roof to put up Santa and his reindeer each year. His workshop rivalled Santas in the North Pole.
Jim was a proud Cape Bretoner and was predeceased by his parents Jim and Isabella Kennedy of Glace Bay and his brothers, Evan and Cy.
He leaves behind his sister, Sarah (Walter) Woodman, Truro; brother, Jeep (Janice), Glace Bay as well as loving in-laws, Dierdre (Bob) Bunnett, Belleville, Ont., Vina (Gerald) Moses, Liverpool, Cora (Sandy) Matheson, Ottawa, Pearl (Joe) Matheson, Miramichi, N.B. and Robert Johnson, Halifax and several nieces and nephews.
The family thanks Drs. Ago, MacFarlane & Oxner as well as the staff of the Cancer Centre at Capital Health, Dr. Chris Cook, Lisa & Dr. Henderson of Palliative Care and VON nurses in Truro for their wonderful caring help during this past year.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on May 4, 2014 at Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow St., Truro with Rev. Valerie Kingsbury officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Colchester East Hants Hospice Society or the Canadian Cancer Society.
