In loving memory of James Albert “Bert” Longhurst, who left for eternal rest with the Lord on April 22, 2014. Bert was born April 12, 1920 on the farm south of Morse , SK to R.J.(Bob) and Martha Longhurst, attending school in Morse, Ernfold and Chaplin. In 1940 he attended the Aeronautic School in the Johnstone Building on Main Street North and joined the Regular Forces in 1941 in Regina. He then went on to Camp Borden. In February 1943 Bert married his sweetheart Bea in Ottawa. In July 1943 he left for overseas with the #13 Canadian General Hospital. He volunteered for the South Saskatchewan Regiment in Holland in December of 1944, and returned home in September 1945. Bert joined the Postal Service in 1953 in Moose Jaw, and retired in Watrous, SK in 1985, returning to live in Moose Jaw in 1989. He was active in Royal Canadian Legion, Square, Round and Pattern Dancing, where he made many new friends and had much enjoyment. Bert had many hobbies, also played violin with Guys and Gal, Kiwanis Tones, We Three Plus One and Mortlach Fiddlers. He was a member of Moose Jaw and District Seniors and life time member of Cosmos Senior Center. Predeceased by his beloved wife Bea in 2013; his parents, sisters Eoulyia Samson, and Lil McLafferty, brothers Don Longhurst, R.E.(Slim) Longhurst, 2 sisters and 2 brothers in infancy; brothers-in-¬law Jonas Samson, J.A.(John) Porter, Roy Shire, and J.G.(Jack) McLafferty; and sisters-in-law, Jean Porter, Flora Longhurst, Ruth Shire and Nell Olson. He is survived by son Ron (Dianne) - Prince Albert, grandsons Cory (Jen) Regina, and Jeff – Duncan, BC, great-grandson Kieran, great-granddaughters Trista and Anika, brother-in-law Bert Shire – Regina. The Celebration of Bert’s life will be held at W.J.Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday April 29, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Bert will be laid to rest beside Bea at Sunset Cemetery. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Chuck MacMillan. An Evening Visitation will take place at the Chapel on Monday from 7 – 9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, c/o 268 High St.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8, would be appreciated. In living memory of Bert, a memorial planting will be made by W.J.
