Selma Miller

Date de décès : 19 avril 2014

Selma Miller passed away peacefully at the Swift Current Care Centre on Saturday, April 19, 2014, just two days short of her 95th birthday.
Selma was born on April 21, 1919, at Kelstern, SK, the first child of Henry & Maria Mueller. After completing grade eight, Selma initially worked at domestic type jobs near her home. In 1942, she moved to Swift Current where she did various types of work, including waitressing and clerking in stores, one of them being the Robinson’s Store. She worked at improving her skills and later worked as a bookkeeper at the Revelstoke Store until her retirement. Selma enjoyed cooking, serving food with a flair for excellence, as well as hosting. She dressed sharply, showing good taste. She was known as a quiet, independent person who loved to travel. Selma's love of travel and recollections of locations she visited were shown by observations she made on specific street names in Central New York City after the 9-11 destruction of the World Trade Centre towers. She read extensively and kept abreast of local, national and international affairs. She thoroughly understood all of it. Selma took great pride in being a part of the Swift Current Oratorio Choir for many years. She greatly enjoyed and really "got into it" so to speak, pieces of music with novelty, including for example a piece where some Shakespearean verse was used. As long as Selma was able, she helped older friends with their shopping, income tax and whatever else was needed. She was a trusted friend. She still completed her own income tax until she was 92 and had high standards doing so and in all of her paperwork. Selma’s move to the Bentley was a difficult one for her…making her feel she was losing too much independence. The loss of confidence in driving, and feeling that she had to give that up along with her car, gave her a real sense of loss. Through this period, she at times was depressed. This was made worse by her unwillingness to accept doctors' care, as well as the medications to deal with this. These were difficult times for her. Selma is survived by her siblings: RICHARD (Winnie) Miller of Regina: EMMA Smith of Swift Current: VI (Dan) Jespersen of Edmonton: VERNA Eldred of Vancouver; and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her siblings, ANNE (Jake) Letkeman: FRIEDA (Otto) Biech: RICHARD in infancy; and by a brother-in-law, Mark Smith. The Funeral Service was held on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating.“All the Way My Saviour Leads Me” was the congregational hymn led by Pete & Leona Braun who also brought the musical selections, “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be” and “Gathering Flowers for the Master’s Bouquet”.Tributes were shared by Verna Eldred and Vi Jespersen. The ushers wereTillie Klippenstein and Elsie Thiessen. The Interment was held at Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK, with Ken Letkeman, Richard Krahn, Ted Wiensz, Marv Poettcker, Kirsten Olson, Ruby Hammer, and Sheryl Siemens serving as pallbearers.
