HAYES, KATHERINE (nee DOYLE) - (November 30,1910 - April 26, 2014) - Katherine passed away in 104th year. Katherine, the daughter of James Doyle and Katherine MacDonald was born in Belledune, NB in 1910. She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1957; and by her sisters Marion and Eileen and brother Jack. She attended the local one room public school at Armstrong Brooke and finished high school at Saint Mary's Academy in Miramichi. She graduated from New Brunswick Normal School in 1928. She began teaching that same year; a teaching career that spanned twenty five years; the first half in New Brunswick and the second half in Montreal. Following the death of her husband Harold, Katherine and her young family moved from Nash Creek, NB to Montreal where she taught at Daniel O'Connell school from 1959 until her retirement in 1972. Katherine continued to live in Montreal until 1996 then returned to her original home in Nash Creek. She is survived by all of her six children: George (Sylvia) of Calgary, Edith Brent of San Jose California, James (Lynn) of Ottawa, Kevin (Catherine) of Ottawa, Kathleen of Nash Creek, NB, Allan (Theresa) of Nash Creek; eleven grandchildren; Carolyn, Stephanie, Marc, Matthew, Laurie, Michaella, Carmen, Sarah, Emilie, Angela, Suzanne, and; ten great-grandchildren. On the occasion of Katherine's centenary in 2010, her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews gathered to celebrate an extraordinary life. Katherine was warmly honoured for exceptional love, devotion and generous spirit as a mother, grandmother, wife, daughter, sister and aunt. Kathleen Hayes, her sister and brothers wish to thank the the staff of Palliative Care Unit of the St. Joseph Community Health Centre in Dalhousie NB for the warm and professional care of their mother.
Her funeral will be held from St. Gabriel's Church, Jacquet River, Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at 11 am. Funeral arrangements are in the care of MacMillans Funeral Home, Black Point. www.macmillansfuneralhome.ca
