It is with great sadness that we, the family of Alexander (Alex) Harrietha announce his passing on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born and raised in Sydney Mines, he was the son of the late Dan Joe and Mary (Dandy) Harrietha.
Alex was a loving husband and father and enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a coal miner for 35 years, and a Branch 008 Legion member where he formed many long lasting friendships. He was very active and loved spending his free time bowling, playing darts and baseball with his friends, as well as spending time with his adoring family.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Dorothy Harrietha and their children, Deborah (Peter) MacDonald, Guelph, Ont., Mary Lou Harrietha, Guelph, Ont., Lorna Capstick, Sydney Mines, Danny (Mary) Harrietha, Fort McMurray, Heather (Leo) Bungay, Alder Point, Vince (Sherry) Harrietha, Fort McMurray, and Shane (Michelle) Harrietha, Guelph, Ont. Also left to mourn are many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Alexander is also survived by his brother Mick (Ann) Harrietha, Sydney Mines, and sister Pat (Stanley) LeBlanc, Sydney Mines.
Besides his parents, Alex was predeceased by his brothers, Doug (Shirley) Harrietha, Vince (Vivian) Harrietha, Andrew (May) Harrietha, as well as his sisters, Rose (Dick) Roberts, Cecelia (Alfred) Forgeron, Effiebell (Orville) Proper, Jackie (Forbsie) LeBlanc and Josie (Bernie) Dugas, his grandchildren, Peter Capstick Jr., John Gregory Capstick, and son-in-law Peter Capstick Sr.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. A celebration of Alex’s life will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at 10 a.m. in Holy Family Church, (formerly St. Pius X) with Fr. Thomas John officiating. A reception to follow in the Royal Canadian Legion, Sydney Mines.
In lieu of flowers donations in Alex’s memory may be made to the Canadian Lung Association, or to a charity of your choice.
