With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Joan Margaret Penticost on April 26, 2014, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, she the daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Stewart) Johnston.
Joan enjoyed going to the senior daycare at the Harbour View Hospital to listen to the music and also liked to play bingo. Joan was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are son Daniel (Nicole Herridge), Sydney Mines; sisters, Theresa (Truman Riely), Point Acconi, and Shirley Johnston; grandchildren, Tyler and Richie Herridge.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by husband Edward Earl Penticost, brother Joseph Johnston, sisters, Mabel Johnston and Ann Rumbolt.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines. Visitation for the late Joan Margaret Penticost will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Fillmore and Whitman Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, May 1, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Fillmore and Whitman Chapel with Rev. Marion Barclay MacKay officiating. Burial in Brookside Cemetery.
