Wallace S. Rafuse

Rafuse, Wallace S. “Wally” – 82, of Amherst, and formerly of Southampton passed away Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Upper Nappan. Born in Parrsboro, he was a son of the late Frederick and Genesta (Smythe) Rafuse. Wally served with the Canadian Armed Forces both in Canada and Germany. He later was employed with Corrections Canada at the Springhill Penitentiary for many years. He was a member of Legion Branch #45, Parrsboro, and also the Knights of Pythias. In his early years, he had played in many old-time country bands, leading up to his own band called the ‘The Old Timers’. He was a musician of many talents with the ability to play almost any instrument, having been self-taught by having an ear to the fine art of music. Wally and his wife, Eva owned and operated the Green Acres Barn Dances in Southampton for many years. In his later life, he liked crib, especially when he was winning and enjoyed watching television, especially “Cops” and other such crime shows. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. He is survived by daughters, Sharon White (Ricky), Dartmouth; Susan Rafuse, Drumheller, Alta; Lorna Mageed, Amherst; sons, David (Tammy), Malagash; Douglas, Amherst; grandchildren, Nicole, Jeremy, David, Krystle, Melissa, Brittany, Chad, Matthew; 9 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, the former Eva Dowe; a sister, Mildred; brothers, Maurice, Basil, Glenford, Gerald. Funeral service 2 p.m. on Thursday [May 8, 2014] at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, Pastor Henry Devito officiating. Burial in the Southampton Cemetery.
