Keziah Richards
Keziah Richards (Nee Saunders) was born Nov. 12, 1924, in Cook's Harbour to George and Diane (Allingham) Saunders. She was the third oldest of six sisters at the age of 12, when her mother died. She left Cook's Harbour to live with Clem and Rebecca Richards in St. Carol's. On Feb. 24, 1942, she married Frederick Richards and together they raised five children and one grandchild. On April 30, 2014, Keziah passed away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. She leaves to mourn her husband of 72 years, Frederick; sons Roy (Chris) and Gordon (Margaret); daughters Shirley (Willis), Faye (Hedley) and Judy (Harrison); 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; her sister Elizabeth Dorcas; half-brothers Fred (Elsie), San (Eliza), Roy (Priscilla), Melvin (Carol) and Edgar (Sheila); half-sisters Joyce, Velma (Morris), and a large number of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents George and Diane Saunders, sisters Bessie, Helen, Rebecca and Vera, half-brother Havner, and her stepmother Clara. Visitation was held at St. Paul's Anglican Church in St. Carol’s from where the funeral service was held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, May 4 with Rev. Mark Wilkoff officiating. Burial followed in the St. Carol’s Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
