SCOTSBURN – The family of Marion Elizabeth Shaw of Scotsburn, sadly announce the passing of their beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother after a short illness, in the Palliative Care Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow on May 8, 2014.
Marion was a daughter of Frederick and Catherine Murray and was the last surviving sibling in her family. She was born in Great Village in 1921 and moved to Stellarton as an infant.
Mom was predeceased by her parents; husband, David Shaw; siblings: Dorothy Schurman, MacKay Murray, Thomas Murray, Kathleen MacMillan, baby Frederick who died as a toddler; grandchildren: Sean and Kate Gaddess and Ryan Smith.
She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Dyack (Colin), Scotsburn; Shauna Robinson (John), Scotsburn; Frances Smith (Barry), White Rock, BC; Jean Snider (Wayne), Meaford, Ontario; and son, John (Nanette), North Vancouver, BC. She is also survived by grandchildren: Dr. Sarah Dyack, James Dyack, Rebecca Smith, Lauren and Michael Snider, and Kristen and Geoffrey Shaw; five great-grandchildren who adored her; and sisters-in-law, Betty Murray and Mona Murray.
Mom was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star, and served as Worthy Matron. She proudly received her 50 year pin.
Her family would like to thank Dr. Gerry Farrell and the staff of the Palliative Care Unit, Aberdeen Hospital, for their compassion and loving care during Mom's last days. We would also like to thank Arlene McNeil for her loving care during the past year and Rev. Jim Webber-Cook for his compassion and care for Mom and her family during these trying days.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation. A funeral service celebrating her life will take place in Scotsburn United Church on Tuesday, May 13 at 2 p.m. Interment to follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Family flowers only please. Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society, or the Kidney Foundation of Canada.
