Frieda Janz, age 87, passed away Thursday, May 1, 2014, at the Cypress Regional Hospital with her family at her side. Frieda was born on July 21, 1926, at Demaine, SK. She was the eldest child of Ben and Mary Schellenberg. In 1933 the family moved to a farm south of Main Centre. They attended the Main Centre MB Church. She accepted Jesus as her Saviour as a young child and was baptized in 1941. After high school Frieda attended Normal School in Moose Jaw. During her teaching career she taught in Wymark, Goethe and Main Centre. Frieda married Arnold Janz on August 1, 1952. They had 2 children, Sheila and Ellery. As a couple, they farmed east of Main Centre. In 1967, Frieda returned to teaching and taught until the school closed in Main Centre in 1979. They moved to Swift Current that year and Frieda became active in the community. She was involved in Christian Women’s Club and The Swift Current Crisis Line. She also taught Friendship Bible Coffees. In 2000, they moved to Medicine Hat, AB and spent 10 years there. They returned to Swift Current in 2010. Frieda took a genuine interest in people. She loved to visit and always had an encouraging word. She took great interest in past students and always enjoyed hearing of their accomplishments. Frieda’s greatest joy was her family. Whether it was playing tile rummy, attending a musical festival, making them chicken noodle soup and homemade buns or taking vacations together, these were her favourite times. Frieda will be deeply missed by her family: her husband, Arnold, of 61 years; daughter, Sheila (Lloyd) Wiebe; son, Ellery (Marlene) Janz; Grandchildren, Thea (Dean) Heinrichs, Matthew (Brianne) Wiebe, Courtney Janz, Whitney Janz (fiancé Dayton Renke); Great-grandchildren, Alexander Heinrichs and Athena Heinrichs; extended family members, Reanetta Buller, Charlotte (Menno) Siemens, Walter (Lynne) Schellenberg, Rudy (Marn) Schellenberg, Ruth Janz, Elaine Janz, Hugo Schmidt, Bill (Rubina) Krestinski; and numerous relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ben & Mary Schellenberg; her brother, Benno; and by her brothers & sisters–in–law, Roy (Adelina) Martens, Art (Leona) Martens, Waldemar Janz, Jacob Janz and Malinda Schmidt. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at 2:00 pm from the Bridgeway Community Church, Swift Current, SK with Pastor Bob Cappelle officiating. The pianist for the service was Verna Martens. “Great Is Thy Faithfulness” and “It Is Well with My Soul” were sung by the congregation. Tributes were shared by her children, Sheila Wiebe & Ellery Janz and by her grandchildren, Thea Heinrichs and Whitney Janz. Special music was brought by her great nieces, Rachelle Patzer & Kim Fast singing, “Christians Never Say Goodbye”. The ushers in the church were Harold Thiessen, Richard Weetman, Greg Siemens and Reg Schellenberg. The Internment Service preceded the Funeral Service and was held at Main Centre MB Church Cemetery, Main Centre, SK with family serving as pallbearers. In memory of Frieda Janz, donations made to West Bank Bible Camp would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.
