With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Emily, on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the Miner’s Memorial Manor, Sydney Mines. Living most of her life in Sydney Mines, Emily moved to Central Court in North Sydney a few years ago.
Born in Sydney Mines on Oct. 25, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Richard (Dick) and Carrie (Jenkins) Harding.
She was a member for many years of Clyde Avenue Baptist Church, Sydney Mines, and at the time of her passing was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney. She was a member of the Ladies Guild, and was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Miner’s Manor up until a few years ago.
Emily is survived by her sons, David (Barbara) and Wayne (Barbara), and by her daughter, Judy (Robert) Hillman. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Jennifer (Walter), Mark (Robyn), Lauren, Katie and Richard, two great-grandchildren, whom she treasured, Ethan and Spencer Rudderham; sisters, Marilyn Amey and Lorraine MacMullin; aunt Eleanor Blackwood and many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind to mourn her best friend, Dorothy Ross.
Besides her parents, Emily was predeceased by her husband Erwin in 2003.
At Mom’s request, there will be no visitation. A celebration of her life will take place Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 2 p.m. in Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney, with Rev. John Hannem officiating. The burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Family flowers only. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines.
