It is with great sadness that the family of the late Gladys Phoebe Whalen, age 87, announce her passing at the Baie Verte Peninsula Health Centre, Baie Verte, NL, on Sunday, May 11, 2014. Predeceased by her husband Gideon Whalen; parents Edgar and Elizabeth Purchase; siblings: Harris Purchase, Alice Whitehorne (Ron), Fred Purchase (Betty), Sadie Watson (George), Betty Sheppard (Charlie); parents-in-law John and Eliza Whalen; siblings-in-law: Eric Whalen (Mary), Clyde Whalen, Josie Hamlyn (Howard). Left with fond and loving memories are her children: Paul Whalen (Margaret), Sydney, Australia, John Whalen (Anne), Harwood, ON, Glenda Simon (Melvin), Lower Onslow, NS, Janice Acreman (Gerald), Baie Verte, NL; grandchildren: Joanne Fairfax (Ben), Melissa Whalen, Stephen Acreman (Pamela), Stephanie Acreman (Sean Greene); great-grandchildren: Emma and Sam Fairfax; brother Eddie Purchase (Edna); sisters-in-law: Myrtle Purchase and Ruby Whalen; home support workers: Goldie Sacrey and Vangie Mills; many nieces and nephews and a large circle of other relatives and friends. A memorial service will take place from St. Paul's Anglican Church, Baie Verte, NL, on Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 3 p.m. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wimbleton’s Funeral Home, Baie Verte.
