John Oliver Lewis of Regina, passed away peacefully May 15, 2014 at the age of 83 years. John was born in Regina on December 21, 1930. He married Valerie Elaine Lawrence in 1968 and resided in the Moose Jaw area until moving to Regina in 2002. He is predeceased by his loving wife Valerie; his parents, George and Mabel “Bess”; brother Bill; and sisters Emma, Mary and Georgina. John is survived by his four children: Robert (Sandra) and their children, Jake, Kara, and Morgan; Teresa (Terry) Dixon, Darcy (Carolyn) of Regina and Michael (Anton) of Edmonton; brother, Paul (Sally) Lewis; sisters Margaret Brown and Wendy Moreside; and sister-in-law Joyce Madden; as well as numerous nephews and nieces. An avid outdoorsman, John enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. He worked his whole life, including driving truck, operating heavy equipment, working in logging camps and farming in the Baildon/Tilney district. While farming and helping to raise a family, he also drove a school bus for over 25 years in the Thunder Creek School Division. John was very social and he enjoyed contributing to the Pasqua community where he helped build the community hall. He treasured his time visiting with family and enjoyed debating the latest current events with everyone. In his later years, John found immense joy, pleasure and friendship in spending as much time as possible with his grandson Morgan. John lived a full and rewarding life, making a difference in the lives of everyone he knew. Loved by many, he will be missed by all.
A Celebration of John’s life will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday May 24, 2014 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will be the Celebrant. Interment will take place at a later time in the Rosetown Cemetery where he will rest with his wife Valerie. Visitation will be held at W.J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday evening from 7:00 - 8:30 pm. While flowers are gratefully declined, memorials to the Soul’s Harbour Mission, PO Box 3356 Stn. Main Regina, SK S4P 3H1, or to a charity of choice, would be greatly appreciated.
