Buddy passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2014, in Guysborough Memorial Hospital surrounded by family.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ada (Hulmes) Porter and children, Debbie (Stevie) Daix, New Waterford; Brenda Hendsbee, Dorts Cove; Pam (Kev) Myatt, Canso; Sharon (Bruce) George, Philip’s Harbour and Rose (Pat) Patton, Salt Springs, Pictou Co. He is also survived by grandchildren, Stephen, Jason (Heather) and Corey Daix; Mandy (Troy) and DJ (Hailey) Mosher; Jonathan and Glenn (Lia) Myatt; Wayne (Robyn) and Nicole George; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh Doyle, Rebecca Chetwynd and Catherine Myatt. Porter is also survived by brothers, Jerome and Scott Porter; sisters, Betty Rafter and Gladys Hulmes; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Buddy was predeceased by his parents, William and Margaret Porter; sisters, Doris and Edith and son-in-law and good friend, Kenneth Hendsbee.
Buddy was born in Dorts Cove, Guysborough Co., but left for New Waterford at age 19 to work in the coal mines, where he remained for 26 years before returning to Dorts Cove after retiring. Buddy was an avid outdoorsman, especially enjoying bear hunting and fishing.
The family would like to make a special thank you to the doctors and nursing staff at Guysborough Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care during Buddy’s stay at the hospital.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no visitation by request. Remains will be interred privately by the family.
