It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Kathleen "Kay" on June 8, 2014. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Kay was the daughter of the late James and Annie (Dunphy) Rustin and spent her childhood in East Chezzetcook with her brother, George, and sisters, Marie, Mary and Elsie.
She and her first husband, the late Sidney Peskett, lived in many places in both Halifax and Dartmouth. Wherever they lived, they always had a loving home for their children, Paulette (late Stewart) Bezanson, Kenneth (Wyn) Peskett, Ray (Bertha) Peskett, and Mike (Roseanne) Peskett. Shortly after the passing of Sid in 1983, she lived at Crathorne Place for several years where she made many new friends.
In 1993, Kay married her husband, Hugh Gillespie and they lived in Summerside for many happy years. Kay and Hugh loved having family visit, especially grandchildren, Bryan (Karen) Bezanson, John (Stephanie) Peskett, Tammy (Stuart) Parker, Tracey (Charlie) Darrow, and Elan Bachmann; great-grandchildren, Jared, Justin, Tyler, Owen, Mitchell and Emily. Kay loved playing bingo and cards with her family and friends.
Kay and Hugh moved back to Halifax in 2007 and were fortunate to make new friends, Paula and Graham. The family would like to thank Paula and Graham for treating Kay like family and being so kind to her over the years.
We would also like to send a special thank you to the nurses on the 9th Floor at Abbie Lane for their compassion and special care of Kay in her final days and their support for the family at this difficult time.
It was Kay's wish to have no funeral service or visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Cruikshank's Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Abbie J. Lane Hospital, or charity of your choice.
