Wilfred Wingate
Lieu de naissance : Glace Bay
Lieu de décès : Bonnyville, Alberta, Canada
Date de décès : 12 juin 2014
It is with saddened hearts and that we are announcing the unexpected passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Wilfred passed away suddenly Thursday, June 12, 2014, in Bonnyville, Alberta.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late Thomas and Audrey (Moffatt) Wingate.
Wilfred was a longtime resident of the Passchendaele area of Glace Bay and had only recently moved to another area of town. He was a very hard worker, starting at the early age of 10 years old he began working on the milk truck, RB’s grocery store, Dow’s oil company and for the past number of years back and forth out west working with various companies.
Wilfred’s personality and being a jokester allowed him to develop many long-lasting friendships, like the one with his best Buddy Bernie Darroch, whom he travelled with. No matter what the situation, if Wilf was there, laughs and smiles were sure to follow. Those who knew him enjoy and expected his quick wit. His family and close friends will miss his daily phone conversations and the pet names he had for each one of us. He also enjoyed going for his spins around with his dear friend Gary Nearing.
Wilf would often be found in the kitchen cooking “beautiful” meals for his family, he also loved sharing stories with everyone and he especially enjoyed what he called “a lose it” moment. Wilfred looked forward to the times spent with his grandchildren, who loved their poppy so much.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Debra Ann (nee Gillis); daughters, Tanya Annette Wingate, Leita Nicole Wingate; son, Wilfred 'Terence' Wingate, all of Glace Bay; sisters, Betty (Brian) Ontario, Avian (John), Wendy (Stephen), Wanda (Alphonse), all of Glace Bay; brothers, Danny (Judy), Glace Bay, Winston, Ontario, Wendell (Julie), Alberta, Kenny, Ontario; Also surviving are grandchildren, Ava Wingate, Baron Wingate; sister in-law, Nancy (Todd) MacDonald, Sackville, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Wilfred was also predeceased by a brother, Wayne Wingate and father and mother in-law, Francie and Doreen Gillis.
Cremation has taken place.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 18, 2014, from 2-4 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay, and the funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Fr. Norman MacPhee officiating.
Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.

The broken chain
I little knew that morning God was to call your name,
in life I loved you dearly in death I do the same.
It broke my heart to lose you; you did not go alone,
for part of me went with you the day God called you home.
You left me beautiful memories, your love is still my guide
and though we cannot see you, you’re always at my side.
Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
