Olive Marjorie Staples,
- Age 91, of Annapolis Royal, passed away April 25th at the Annapolis Royal Nursing Home. Born in Annapolis Royal on August 7, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Fritz Birkett Balcom and the late Eva Marguerite (Warren) Balcom. She was predeceased by her brother, Warren Balcom. Olive was an RN who graduated from the Saint John General Hospital, and who spent most of her career as an operating room nurse. Her final career years were spent setting up and taking charge of the Central Sterilization Department at the Dartmouth General. Her passions included her home, the beauty of the Annapolis Valley, gardening, exhibiting flower specimens, knitting and other needlework, family heirlooms, drawing and painting, and writing poetry. She loved cats, music and dancing. She belonged to many organizations, usually contributing her leadership skills as an executive member, and was always fully engaged in the causes she supported. She is survived by her daughter, Margo (Henry) Bent, son, Allan Staples (Brenda Dempsey), granddaughters, Kim Bent (Neill McKay), Jennifer Bent Richard (John Richard) and Jill Staples McNally (Bob McNally), as well as two great granddaughters, Ali Bent-Richard and Olivia McNally. Cremation has occurred under the care and direction of Kaulbach Family Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Annapolis Royal. As per Olive’s wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. A private graveside service for family and close friends will be held in Clementsport United Church Cemetery. A reception in Olive’s memory will be held 2-4pm Thursday July 17, 2014 at the St. George and St. Andrew United Church, Annapolis Royal.
