We, the family of James Arthur Donovan, announce with heartfelt sorrow his passing on July 2, 2014.
Art was born Dec. 20, 1928 and lived his life happily in Ingonish Harbour, creating a beautiful family and touching the lives of many friends and acquaintances. He was a carpenter by trade and spent his working career at Public Works of Nova Scotia, Parks Canada and the Keltic Lodge. Art enjoyed spending time outside either sitting on his veranda chatting or tinkering, creating special projects for those that he loved.
Art is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lillian; daughter, Linda (Joe) Hines, Ingonish Ferry and sons, Brian, Ingonish Harbour, John (Janice) Saint John, Tim (Joan) Timberlea, George (Shauna), Neil's Harbour, Wallace (Charlotte), Ingonish Harbour and Ryan, Antigonish. He is also survived by brothers, Clyburn, Ingonish Beach, Kyte, Dartmouth and Philip (Georgina), Ingonish Beach and sisters, Charlotte Gillis, Sydney, Emiline McLennan, Mira, Vivian Laitwaitis, Sydney Mines, Nan (Colin) Gillis, Mira, Ann Marie Kaiser, Halifax and Eleanor Richardson, Timberlea.
Poppy will be greatly missed by his 16 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, who all held a very special place in his heart.
Also left to mourn are Wendy Donovan, Debbie Donovan and Vickie Robinson, who he felt very dear to.
He was predeceased by his parents, Emma and Maurice Donovan; brothers, Wilfred, Bloras and Patrick and sisters, Edna MacDonald and Kathleen 'Kay' Robichaud.
A graveside service will be held at St. Peter's Church, Ingonish today (Monday, July 7) at 2 p.m. A reception will follow at the Cape Smokey Recreation Centre, Ingonish.
Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
