HOYT, DOROTHY HILDA (SMITH) - Formerly of Blissville New Brunswick, Dorothy "Dot" died on January 1st 2014 one day short of her 97th birthday. She passed away peacefully at the Perley Rideau Long Term Care facility in Ottawa. Dorothy was predeceased by her parents Windslow and Bessie Smith (nee Harris), brothers Glenwood (Mary) and Norman, and sister Thelma (Jack), nephew Peter and husband, of 48 years, Eric. She is survived by her daughter Nancy (Ritchie), grandsons Todd (Patti) and Gavin (Barb), great-grandchildren Faith, Jay, Brady, Paetra and Tate, and niece Sandy (Graham) and sons Alexander, Nolan and Christian, sister-in-law Mary. Dorothy spent the first 82 years of her life in New Brunswick where she made many friends and was devoted Wife and Mother. She was a teacher in her early years and over time became an avid curler, operated the Family General Store and was The Postmistress. Her love of sports and politics continued into her latest years in Ottawa where she spent the last 14 years with her daughter and family. The happy time in Ottawa was filled with family and new friends all of whom called her "Nana Dot".
Visitation and Funeral Service will be at Sunbury Funeral Home ... notably and fittingly Dorothy's former "the Eric Hoyt General Merchant". Visitation Sunday, July 27th, 2 to 4pm. Funeral Service Monday, July 28th at 11:00 am, with Rev Bob Johnston officiating. Interment to follow at Blissville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers you may express Condolences with a donation to Blissville Cemetery or a charity of your choice.
