SANGALANG, GREGONIA “GEORGIE” (IGNACIO) - After a period of illness, the death of Georgie Sangalang occurred on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at the Saint John Regional Hospital. Born in 1933 in Malabon, Philippines, she was the daughter of the late Florentino and Eusebia (Apolonio) Ignacio, and beloved wife of Dr. Delio Sangalang. Georgie cared for many people in her nursing career at various hospitals in Boston, Montreal, Ottawa and Saint John. She then opened and operated Geordels Happy Day Nursery and Kindergarten where she tended to many little children for more than 20 years here in the city. Above all of her care for others, Georgie’s number one love, was that of her family. Family and friends meant everything to her and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her sons William and Richard (Darlene) of Saint John and James (Cathy) of Florida; sister Teresita (Joseph Manosca) of Saint John; grandchildren Beverlee (Corey Wols), Waverly Sangalang and Rikki Sangalang (Mandy); great grandchild Cohen; niece Mayflor (Rodrigo Gutierrez) and their children J.P. and Jorge; nephews Joselito (Tracey) Manosca and David (Lisa) Manosca, all of Saint John; as well as, many other nieces and nephews and extended family members in other parts of the world. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers Benjamin and Marcial Ignacio and her sisters Adelaida Esguerra, Lolita Artigas, Erlinda Go and Siony Purificacion.
Resting at Fundy Funeral Home 230 Westmorland Road, (646-2424) with visitation on Sunday and Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, August 5, 2014 from St. Joachim’s Catholic Church, 603 Loch Lomond Road at 1 pm. Interment to follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
