It is with great sadness that we the loved ones of Mary Catherine Buckles, 68, of St. Joseph du Moine, announce her passing on Feb. 14, 2010, at the Foyer Pere Fiset nursing home in Cheticamp, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in Inverness, she was the daughter of the late R.D. and Margaret MacKinnon.
She was a member of St. Joseph’s Church. Mary was a LPN in Quebec for a number of years and returned to Cape Breton where she continued to nurse.
She always enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, league bowling in Cheticamp was a favourite pastime for a number of years.
She is survived by her son, Roy Jr. (Francine), St. Joseph du Moine; daughter, Julie, Peace River, Alta; Sister Diane, Montreal; her three special grandchildren, Ryan, (Leah) Peace River, Alta; Eric, Adam, St. Joseph du Moine.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband, Roy Anthony and her son, Eric Allen, brother, Alec MacKinnon, Montreal, Sister Marguarite Owchar, Montreal.
There will be no visitation. A funeral mass will be held Thursday, Feb. 18 at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church with Rev. Peter LeBlanc officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
Donations may be made to the Foyer Pere Fiset or the charity of your choice.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of the Sunset Funeral Co-operative, Margaree Valley.
