John 'Lloyd' Donovan

Date de naissance : 19 août 1948

Date de décès : 1er août 2014

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Donovan who lost his battle with cancer late Friday evening. Lloyd was surrounded by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
Lloyd was a successful entrepreneur and a tireless advocate for the community of Ingonish that he called home for all of his 65 years. He was employed as a manager for Rona and managed the Ingonish store for many years. Lloyd created and successfully operated Ingonish Contracting, with his wife Vi, that was a mainstay in the community for decades. He also worked as part of the Joneljim Investment team and he was the owner of Donovan’s Building Supplies.
Lloyd’s expertise and knowledge in the field of contracting and building supplies was second to none. He had exceptional business knowledge and judgment that earned him the respect of all those with whom he worked.
Lloyd was an avid sportsman and was devoted to golf both as a player and as the president of the Highland Golf Club Society. He participated in and oversaw many tournaments over the years and was dedicated to the development of the golf club for the community. Lloyd was also actively involved in Cape Smokey Ski Club and the Canada Games as he saw the value in involving youth in sport. He also enjoyed reading and listening to music and was a true Boston Bruins fan. This lead to the fun loving competition he had with his grandson every time the Bruins or Senators were on TV.
Born in Neil’s Harbour, Lloyd was the son of the late John Michael ‘Jack’ and Mabel (Oliver) Donovan.
Lloyd was also predeceased by his sister, Jean, brother, Michael, brother-in-law, Wayne MacGibbon, his father-in-law, Johnnie Nolan and his nephew, Kenneth Paul Nolan.
Left to mourn is his wife, Vi (Nolan) Donovan; his son, Brian (Leah) Donovan and his two grandchildren who he adored, Aiden and Allie. His sister, Camilla MacGibbon; brother, Vince (Judy) Donovan; sister-in-law, Maisie (Bob) Weeks; niece, Jeannie (Gordon) Marsh and nephews, Wayne (Connie) MacGiboon, Bruce (Belinda) MacGibbon, Blair (Allison) Donovan, Ricky (Leanne) Donovan, Robbie (Jean) Donovan, Shawn Donovan, Andre (Carolyn) Pupulin, Kevin Nolan, Charles Nolan and Daniel Nolan. Lloyd will be sadly missed by his family on the hill especially his mother-in-law, Edie Nolan; sister- in-law, Karen Pupulin; brothers-in-law, Richard (Sandra) Nolan, Bobby (Ruth Anne) Nolan and also his many, many friends both near and far.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Lloyd’s memory to the North of Smokey Palliative Care Society, Buchanan Memorial Hospital Foundation or St. John’s Anglican Church Memorial Fund.
Lloyd’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nursing staff and doctors at Buchanan Memorial Hospital who showed so much compassion and support to both Lloyd and his family in their time of need.
