Purney, Robert Charles – age 92 of Enslow’s Point, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 in Surf Lodge Nursing Home, Lockeport. Robert was a veteran of WWII and served in the Marine Division of the R.C.A.F. He was a member of Albert Lodge No. 30, Taylor Lodge No. 62, Crescent Chapter No. 70, Order of the Eastern Star and many other Masonic bodies. He was also a member of the Lockeport Legion , Branch No. 80. After his release from the Military, he moved to Ontario where his main occupation was construction of pleasure boats. He enjoyed travelling, gardening and wood carving. He is survived by his brothers, Hastings, Sarnia, Ontario; Joshua (May), Nanaimo, BC; Arthur (Ruth), Sunset, Florida; daughter, Linda Gibbs (Don); granddaughter Jennifer Jones (husband Ryan) and 5 great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Charles and Anastasia (Freeman) Purney, he was predeceased by sister, Constance Hirst and brother-in-law Robert Hirst of Nanaimo, BC and his long-time companion, Shirley Rydholm. He will be missed by his many friends. No visitation by request. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, July 16 at 2 p.m. at H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel, Shelburne, with Rev. Ed Trevors officiating. A Masonic service took place prior to the funeral service. Donations may be made to Surf Lodge Nursing Home or charity of choice. Interment in Pine Grove Cemetery. A reception was held at the funeral home following the service. Sincere thanks to Dr. Riley and all the staff at the Surf Lodge Nursing Home, for the excellent care given to Bob for the past 3+ years and the last few days of his life, who went above and beyond their call of duties.
