It is with broken hearts and undying love that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved son, brother and uncle, Gary Petrie, 27, of Scotchtown, on Aug. 4, 2014.
Born in Sydney, N.S., he was a son of Gary and Mary (Williams) Petrie.
He loved smiling, hugging and kissing everyone especially his mother, whom he affectionatley referred to as 'Smookie.' He loved to tell every woman how beautiful they were. Gary loved spending time at the bungalow with his father where they would hunt, fish and boat on the water. He dearly loved playing with his nephews and niece who thought the world of him. He would spend many hours playing X-Box with Troy and Jeff. Gary also enjoyed playing basketball and spent summers working as a camp counsellor sharing his love for life with the children. Very special to his heart were his two sisters whom he loved to torment and tease.
Surving are sisters, Angela Petrie (Mikie McPhee), Stephanie Petrie; grandparents, Daniel and Marie (Briand) Petrie; nephews, Dawson, Josh and Brayden; niece, Taylor.
Gary was predeceased by grandparents, Ervin and Angel (Lemoine) Williams and nephew, Jacob Petrie.
Visitation will be held today (Thursday, Aug. 7) from 2-6 p.m. at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. Cremation will follow with a funeral mass of celebration on Friday, Aug. 8 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating.
