Jeanne Marie Stowe (Healey)

Jeanne Marie Stowe (Healey)

November 15, 1929 to August 9, 2014
Passed away after a long, courageous and noble battle with cancer. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband of 60 years, Nelson; her twin sister and best friend Margaret (Peg) Ronan; four sons, Bernard (Peggy), Michael (Chiaki), Nelson (Melissa) and Noel; three daughters, Barbara Perry, Anne Marie Downey (Garth) and Cathy; 12 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and faithful friends. Jeanne was pre-deceased by her parents, Francis and Mary Agnes Healey; sisters, Ellen, Monica, Alice, Annie, Angela and Pat; and brothers, Jack, Jerry, Bobby and Ed. Born in St. John's, Newfoundland, Jeanne lived a full and rich life, devoted to her family and to her God. While her highest priority was to ensure a caring and loving home for her children and extended family and to support her husband Nelson in his hectic pharmacy business, Jeanne also had an enormous zest for living, was the heart of any gathering and possessed a passion for life itself. From her very early years she had a tremendous love of music and singing. From solo performances as a young woman to many years of participation in church choirs, Jeanne's beautiful voice brought pleasure to all who heard her. A highlight of her life was singing with St. Peter's Church choir at New York's famed Carnegie Hall. Jeanne loved a game of cards with family members and card-club friends, and spent numerous joyful hours with her favourite game of bridge, and a small side-bet of loose change always made the game more competitive for her. Jeanne always had time for those less fortunate than herself or those with a special need. From caring for her mother for many years, her special sister-in-law Patsy; preparing meals or care packages for the ill and poor; or the countless hours spent volunteering at St. Peter's Church, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Patrick's Mercy Home, Jeanne's kindness and generosity knew no bounds to the very end. Loving, caring, generous, compassionate and with a smile and laugh that never failed to warm and touch the hearts of all, Jeanne will be enormously missed, but at the same time celebrated for all of the joy she brought to others. The Stowe family acknowledges the staff at the Miller Centre Palliative Care Unit for their efforts to bring comfort to Jeanne in her final days and the staff at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre for their professionalism and kindness. A very special thank you to Dr. Colleen Kirby for her devotion, caring and support to both Jeanne and Nelson over the past several years. Also thanks to Jeanne's life-long friends and her close friends at the Summerville Condominium for their continued support and thoughtfulness during Jeanne's illness. The family is very grateful to Father Leo English for his ongoing spiritual guidance, friendship and encouragement, particularly during these difficult times, and for his generous counsel and compassion. Special thanks and love to Jeanne's sister Peg for always being there for Jeanne, to share the latest news, to play a game of cards, to listen and to simply sit by her side. Particular acknowledgement to the Ronan family for their love and care for both Jeanne and Nelson. With admiration and love the Stowe children extend their deepest gratitude to their dad, the love of mom's life, for dedicating the last three years to caring for her in the comfort of their home, tending to her every need and loving her though her pain. Resting at Caul's Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road. Visitation on Monday, August 11, 2014 from 7 - 9pm and Tuesday, August 12, 2014 from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
