It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Catherine MacGillivray, 59, of Lingan, on Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Daniel Thomas and Mary Margaret (Young) MacGillivray.
Catherine was a very loving sister and although she was never married or had children, she was very fond of her nieces and nephews; never missing a birthday. She loved music, namely country and western, and dancing. Catherine showed great strength and courage during her illness over the past year. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are brothers, Alex of Lingan, Robert of Glace Bay, Michael (Mary), Dominion, John (Claire), Cole Harbour; sisters, Barbara MacGillivray of Lingan, Theresa (Peter) MacInnis, Coxheath, Ann (Ray) Dimock, Dartmouth, Mary Hogan, Ontario; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Besides her parents, Catherine was predeceased by one brother, Daniel and three siblings in infancy.
A private funeral service was held on Monday, Aug. 11 in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Burial followed in Mount Carmel Cemetery, New Waterford.
Donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one’s choice.

A special and many thanks to her close friend Treena MacNeil whom she considered as a sister. Catherine enjoyed the times they spent together.
