IRVING, Eileen Rose (MacKenzie) - 78, Hardwood Hill/ Scotsburn, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Debbie, on August 10, 2014. Born in New Glasgow, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Edith (Whyte) MacKenzie and stepdaughter of the late Mary (Livingston) MacKenzie. Eileen was married to Benvie Irving for over 50 years until his passing in 2006. She was active in the Bethel Rebekah Lodge #96, Scotsburn, for over 55 years. She was also a member of the Bethel Ladies Aid and was a pioneer member of Scotsburn Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Spending time with family was very important to her and she enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting, reading, puzzles and rocking any new babies who were in her presence. Eileen is survived by her children, Judy (Lloyd) MacIntosh, Scotsburn; Ronnie (Patricia) Irving, Scotsburn; Debbie (Ron) Sharpe, Scotsburn; Kathy (Gary) MacLean, Trenton; and Charlie (Shirley) Irving, Newfoundland; her half brother, Barry (Janet) MacKenzie, MacLellan’s Brook; and her brother-in-law, Gordon Irving, Pictou. Also left to mourn “Mama” are 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 and 7-9 PM Wednesday in McLaren Funeral Home, Pictou. Funeral will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday from Bethel Presbyterian Church, Scotsburn, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations in her memory may be made to the Aberdeen Palliative Care Society or Pictou County VON. The family extends sincere thanks to Dr. Farrell and the VON team for their compassionate care and kindness.
