MICHAEL PARKER MACDONALD
Michael Parker MacDonald, 66 - Halifax
It is with great sadness, that we the family announce the passing of Michael Parker MacDonald, age 66, of Halifax, on Friday August 15, 2014.
Born in North Sydney, Cape Breton, on May 20, 1948, Michael was a son of Jeanne Louise (Regan) MacDonald and the late Byron MacDonald. Michael was a graduate of Thompson High School, North Sydney, and Acadia University (BA & BEd), Wolfville. Michael taught for a short period of time in the school system in North Sydney and with Adult Education. Michael worked 31 years with Canada Post and retired in May of 2008. During his retirement he enjoyed traveling to Scotland, Ireland, United States, Mexico and Cuba. Michael was a sport enthusiast, enjoying and playing many sports with a special passion for tennis. He was an avid cribbage, tarabish and chess player who loved to win.
A special friend described Michael with these words “Whether a close friend or acquaintance, Michael was always the consummate gentleman. A true and loyal friend who listened intently, with a kind and compassionate heart. His passing is a great loss to family and friends who were touched by his warmth and keen mind. Michael spoke with grace and intelligence and touched us all with his charm and wit. He will not be forgotten… Bro, until we meet again! “
Michael is survived by his mother Jeanne and by his brother Hugh, both of Halifax. Also by nephews Bill, John, Michael and David, by a special aunt Mary MacKenzie of Kentville, NS and many cousins.
Besides his father Byron MacDonald, Michael was predeceased by a brother John MacDonald of Port Colborne, Ontario.
The family and friends of Michael wish to thank the nurses and doctors of the QEII Infirmary (7th floor, units 7.2 & 7.4) for their compassionate care shown to Michael during his short stay in hospital.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date in Halifax. Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant Street, North Sydney.
