SMITH, MARGUERITE M. - 1919 - 2014 - On August 26, 2014, our beloved mother passed away peacefully at the Saint John Regional Hospital. She is now reunited with our dear father Hazen F. Smith, who predeceased her in October, 2013. Marg was born in 1919 in Moncton, N.B. and was the daughter of Joseph and Eva Girouard. Marg was a member of the first graduating class of the Moncton High School in 1936. She attended Teachers College in Fredericton and taught school in Dorchester and Moncton Schools and did supply teaching in Kingston and Ottawa, Ontario where she resided for many years. She was a wonderful homemaker and cook and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a faithful friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed playing bridge and all card games and she and Hazen spent many years dancing, both squares and rounds in Florida where they spent their winters and in Moncton. Marg attended St. Bernard's Church in Moncton, and she was a former member of the CWL and the Legion of Mary at St. Edward's Church in Dorchester, N.B. She is survived by her daughter Alyce (Clarence) Walsh of Beaver Harbour, N.B., son Mark (Bonnie) Smith of Ottawa, grandsons, Richard Walsh of Moncton, Timothy Walsh of Beaver Harbour, and Christopher Walsh (Mylene) of Drummondville, P.Q., great-grandchildren, Lianne and Andy Walsh of Drumondville, P.Q. and one brother Vincent Girouard of Moncton, N.B. Besides her parents she was predeceased by her loving husband of 69 years, Hazen, a sister, Maria Atkinson,and two brothers, Dr. Charles Girouard and Paul Girouard.
Visitation will be held at Tuttle Brothers and Riverview Funeral Home., 214 Pine Glen Rd. in Riverview, N.B. on Monday, September 1 from 1p.m. to 2p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church in Moncton, N.B. at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow in the Church Hall. Donations in Marg's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice and would be appreciated by the family. Interment will be at Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery, Dieppe, N.B. The family would like to thank the following, the eucharistic ministers at St. Mark's Church and Gloria Mahar for faithfully visiting mom each week and the staff of Concorde Hall, Shannex, Quispamsis, N.B.
