Jeremy Thurgood

Date de décès : 28 août 2014

Jeremy Sean Thurgood
January 26, 1974 – August 28, 2014

How to begin … Jeremy was diagnosed with cancer on July 3, 2014 and was too soon taken on August 28, 2014 at 40 years of age. Even in his last moments, Jeremy was a consummate sweetheart, displaying appreciation for every gesture he received and cracking jokes to bring welcome smiles to those around him. Our gentle giant, Berm, will be remembered most of all for his generosity and kindness. Friends and family alike can attest to Jeremy’s role as a constant Samaritan. Beyond a desire to help, Jer had the knowledge to tackle any number of projects; as a proponent of jumping in with both feet, Jeremy drew his skills from a lifetime of passionately embracing new interests. Those closest to him likely remember Jeremy in motion; enjoying time in nature, discussing how to best approach his latest project, teaching a new skill, preparing a beautiful dinner or, if the spirit took him, singing a song while he strummed his guitar. His beloved dogs Rasta and Tosh, whose fierce appearance could be matched only by their gentle hearts, would certainly attend the performance. Those who didn’t know Jeremy might be surprised to discover that the heavily tattooed man who rode by earlier on his Harley was now cooing “durgle turgle” to his treasured son, Keone. If they could see Jeremy’s patient eyes and easy smile light up as he played with his son on the handmade quilt he had created, they would see another man. Maybe they’d love Jeremy a little more for it too, like we do.
Jeremy had an amazing ability to thrive in different worlds and bring people together. As such, the space provided within this paragraph does not begin to account for the people whose lives he impacted, nor those who impacted him. Jeremy leaves behind to cherish his memory his son Keone; mother Jane Thurgood Sagal; father Grant Thurgood; brother Gareth Thurgood (Janeen, children Kaili and Dylan); sisters Ksenia Thurgood and Kasia Skeoch; grandparents Elsie and Richard Craig; uncles and aunts Jan (Sue) Thurgood and their children Jaime (Alan, child Ethan) and Leigh; Sandra (Bob) Kitts and their children Jason (Martina, children Aurora and Soren), Chay (Sydney), Keiran; Trish Thurgood-York (Bob York) and children Braydon and Ali; Nelson Craig and his son Liam; and a seemingly endless list of friends whose loving support represented family to Jeremy. It would seem remiss not to specifically mention Megan Carleston Sever, a constant support in Jeremy’s life, as well as the brotherhood he treasured at Cory Potash mine. Finally, Jeremy is predeceased by his grandparents Edie and Jim Thurgood, and his step-father Ken Sagal.
The celebration of Jeremy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home in Saskatoon (East on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, the Saskatoon Cancer Centre, or to any organization that you think Jeremy would be happy to support. Online condolences may be sent from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements entrusted to Basil Forsberg.
